In 1978, a number of girls from Richard Bland College, of the College of William and Mary, made the decision to form a sorority for the mutual benefits of its sisters. After much hard work, Alpha Beta Psi was formally recognized as a sorority on October 22, 1978.
A member of the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Beta Psi decided to carry on the legacy at Longwood University. The Beta Chapter was the first off-campus sorority in Farmville. Beta Chapter dissolved around 2002, but was reformed on April 13, 2008. The Beta Chapter was formally recognized by Longwood University on April 22, 2014. In the Fall of 2015 the Beta Chapter became associates of the College Panhellenic Council.
